1776® Fault-Freedom™ II
Summary of Features and Benefits
Fault-Freedom II is server mirroring software. It provides high availability like traditional clustering PLUS protection of data transactions as they occur and other benefits as follows:
BENEFITS SHARED WITH TRADITIONAL CLUSTERING
- Protection against server failure - Protects against server failure and operating system crash, ensuring system uptime.
- Software crash recovery - Automatic recovery from crash of a database engine or other critical program, increasing system uptime further.
BENEFITS NOT AVAILABLE WITH TRADITIONAL CLUSTERING
- Protection against loss of "current data" - Protects against loss of your stored data in its current state, i.e. including the most recent transactions (which tape backup does not protect).
- Protection against most typical site disasters ("disaster recovery") - Permits physical separation of the servers in different parts of the same site, which protects against downtime or data loss due to the most common site disasters (such as typical fire, theft, vandalism, water damage and lightning).
- Protection against storage subsystem failure - Protects against damage or failure of the storage subsystem and the connection between that subsystem and your server.
OTHER IMPORTANT BENEFITS
- On-line system maintenance - Further reduces downtime. Perform maintenance or software upgrades on one system while users continue work on the other system.
- On-line tape backup ("Snap-Shot") for 24/7 systems -reduces downtime even further if systems run nearly 24-hours per day with no window for proper tape backup. Run a coherent tape backup on one machine while users continue to work on the other.
- Major disaster recovery - Systems can be geographically separated in different cities for maximum protection against major site disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes, etc. (There are some trade-offs to this benefit. Please inquire if interested.)
SUMMARY
Using all features, you can achieve 99.99% uptime, PLUS ensure the integrity of your current data, including the most recent transactions - something tape backup does not do. This is achieved by providing protections against most events that cause downtime OR loss of data, including equipment failure, normal system maintenance and typical site disasters.
